I am Emily the owner of The Lighthouse Counselling. My first experience of counselling was in my early teens, and I have seen different types of therapists over the years which is what developed my interest in becoming a counsellor myself. Having experienced physical and mental pain of different types from quite a young age, I understand and have seen the link between the mind and body for myself.
My role as a counsellor is to help work with you, to look at your life from a fresh viewpoint. This is how counselling would be different to talking with a friend, I am essentially a stranger with no background on you. In lighthouse terms, I shine a light into your life.
I have been told I am warm in my approach and I do not judge you. We would work together, I will not provide advice but will help to empower you to make any changes you want to in your life.
I work with whatever you wish to bring to the session, it doesn't need to be something from the past, nor does it need to be when you've reached crisis point however you wish to make use of our time together, is your choice. It's called person-centred how I work.
I am a counsellor based near Thame in Oxfordshire. I see clients face to face in Chinnor and Thame, Oxfordshire or online via video call, or over email. The ability to work online means I can offer therapy to adults across the UK, in places such as Manchester, York and Cheltenham or more locally in Thame, Oxford, Chinnor and Aylesbury for example.
